NOCES DE VERS

«It’s about a ritual. It could very well be a wedding. A strange and improbable wedding. A wedding outside of society. A cruel wedding. A wedding out of time. The union of immobile bodies. The union of human beings. A marriage beyond religion. An anti-social marriage. Between a valid and a disabled person. Between Yann Marussich and Kamil Guenatri. There is no pity to be had. Pity is a form of power over onathor, by believing ourselves to be superior to what is in front of us and which disturbs us. No one is superior ».

For Yann Marussich, immobility is an aesthetic choice: it has characterized his performances for over twenty years. Kamil Guenatri, on the other hand, did not choose it: due to an illness, he lost the use of his muscles. Immobility has thus become the starting point of his performances. The work resulting from their collaboration evokes the celebration of a unlikely wedding: the union of two immobile bodies in a sort of poetic ritual that the artists share with the public. Noces de Vers is a creation in a triptych form, each part is a performance in itself.



L'ACCEPTATION DU DOUTE - Part 2

"It is at the same time a reading and at the same time two bodies. The text delivers a monotonous dialogue, better: a monologue in the form of an addressed letter or perhaps in the form of a diary. Finally it floats in the undefined and in the confession of physical and psychic powerlessness. Any explanation is vain and the rest is prey to doubts ". Yann Marussich

Kamil is lying, suspended. He breathes. Loudly. We can only hear his breathing. Yann Marussich comes forward and joins him. He sharpens colored pencils, are they the same ones that write his texts, perhaps? And then, a very rare phenomenon in Yann Marussich's artistic career happens, Yann starts to speak. Not really speaking, because it is his recorded voice that comes to lull the spectator during the time of the performance. At the same time, Kamil Guenatri and Yann Marussich's bodies are motionless and give life to the text that fills the whole room. A reflection on their meeting, art, life, doubt, death. And immobility. Immersed in its contemplation, the audience does not directly notice that only one movement is inscribed in this picture, that of the two bodies progressively approaching.
